Is it possible to use Microsoft 2013 sharepoint search server as my search engine for my site -

my site not written sharepoint.
runs on iis(aspmvc) interacts on http request/response , fetches db data.

  1. does make sense install , use microsoft 2013 sharepoint search db indexing , free text querying (ms sql) ?
    (i know can use ms full text search features , performance poor)
    (i know can use solr/lucene. great solution indeed. wonder if can in ms technologies)

  2. can install not part of sharepoint? standalone indexer?
    how? require sharepoint foundation search?

  3. should install microsoft search server 2010 instead feature? 2013 sharepoint search?

not going answer questions 1 one, skimming through them:

you not able use of sharepoint's searches without installing sharepoint. there no separate search server sp2013 anymore, it's 1 product.

so answer question three: sp2013 better using search server 2010 includes fast features had pay for. complete comparison free version (foundation) see page:

you can search through publicly available website default sharepoint search, can use search using webservices or using parameters. possible directly search through database using bcs (business data connectivtiy services), foundation version bit limited there.

i think main problem have install whole sharepoint , maintain well. i'm not sure it's worth hassle installing whole product if want use search. microsoft had inteded search server 2010 product, discontinued it.

  2. search server 2010, yes can. sp2013, no.
  3. 2013 includes fast search component, had pay lot for. it's better.

my 2 cents: if want search, go search product lucene based products. if want "more" search, or don't want yet technology (if know sharepoint) - go sp.

c# - Maintaining a program folder in program files out of date? -

for program i'm writing in vs c# wpf need store user related information on user's computer. far knew has been done creating folder in c:\program files , adding whatever program related info folder in subfolders or whatever. after doing browsing came across lot of people saying method out of date because access may denied create folder there, works administrative accounts, etc.. 1 site suggested saving c:\users\username\appdata\roaming or c:\users\username\appdata\local. question best , date method saving program data users computer? also take @ msdn article . it uwp apps have general idea put if developing wpf app. you may need these folders: environment.specialfolder.applicationdata environment.specialfolder.localapplicationdata environment.specialfolder.commonapplicationdata
